The 411 on Farm City Week

Next week is "Farm City Week" here in Altus. As part of the festivities, there is a luncheon, two farm city tours, a banquet, and for some, a ride in the KC-135 or C-17.

On Wednesday, October 29th, there is an a.m. tour that leaves around 8:00 from the Altus Community Center and will go until about noon. The Farm City Luncheon follows at noon at the Community Center. (This is optional and tickets for the luncheon are $10.00) There will be a second tour in the afternoon leaving around 1:30 until around 5:00. Children are welcome to come on the tour as well. See below for sign up information.

The tour will highlight Jackson County's agricultural economy and crops grown in Southwest Oklahoma. The tour buses will travel to the Cotton Growers Coop Gin, Altus Peanut Warehouse and Robbie Robbins Farming operations and then there will be a chance for participants to drive a tractor at the Expo Center.

On Thursday night, October 30th, there is a Farm City Banquet that begins at 6:00 at the Altus High School Auditorium. There is a full evening of events scheduled including live entertainment from Mikayla Jo Balderas and an award ceremony. Tickets to the banquet are $20.00.

For more information, tickets, or to sign up for the tours, call Lela at the Altus Chamber of Commerce at 482-0210. For those affiliated with the AFB, call Lisa Holland at 481-7700. She is with Public Affairs on base and can provide tickets and information to military families.
